Us Europeans didn’t fare as well as our American counterparts in the inclusivity stakes when it came to mature models featured on the catwalks of Fashion Week season.
In Milan, only two designers opted to cast and over 50’s models, with Arthur Arbesser sending his muse, the gorgeous Austrian model cum fashion journalist, Cordula Reyer down the runway in a fabulous long black trench coat and flattering geometric printed trousers and a slick of red lipstick – glorious. Born in 1964, Cordula is no Millennial!

Also in Milan 74-year-old Italian actress and model, Benedetta Barzini graced the catwalk at Daniela Gregis in a series of elegant looks.
As for London, the remaining 2 of the 13 models both walked for the Teatum Jones’ FW collection, ‘Global Womanhood’. This collection was all about empowering strong women and was both inspired and modelled by unique, strong and powerful women, including 59-year-old, British fashion commentator and body positivity activist Caryn Franklin, who stunned in a glorious pale blue silk dress with a floral print; and editor, Sophia Neophitou.
Coming last in the age-inclusive stakes, Paris Fashion Week featured absolutely no models over the age of 50 at the main shows.

I feel so inspired and hopeful when I see these mature women being celebrated for their inner and outer beauty and strong, individual style.

I myself made my runway return this week, at the exciting Sedomir Rodriguez de la Sierra at FeriaModaTFE 2018. The show was my second appearance as a ‘mature model’, following my debut at Tugcan Dokmen year. I have to say, I loved the experience, I felt beautiful and I have no plans to stop that feeling that beautiful clothes give me any time soon! Designing for women all ages should be a given and makes complete buisiness sense for me.
