París – Haute Couture – YUIMA NAKAZATO.
There were some truly amazing and wonderful pieces at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week this year, and although couture pricing is not for everyone, it does reflect the huge amounts of work that go into each individual piece – perhaps if you budget!
Appointed official guest designer twice by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 2016 and 2017, the second Japanese designer to be chosen in history!
Yuima Nakazato Couture was a revelation in his approach. Inspired by outer space and the need for the colonisation of a world beyond earth, his collection (entitled HARMONISE) used disposed industrial products originally designed for protection – such as airbags and parachutes – dismantling, reassembling and repurposing them through digital fabrication and craftsmanship, to become the innovative material used to create his couture garments.
The pieces respond to changing environments and the wearer’s body shape and world they live in, while also significantly extending the lifespan of the item making it almost semi-permanent.
