Woman changing the WORLD
Its been a real body positive year … with more woman realizing that you can do something to change perceptions …
Plus-size fashion – as it is called in industry terms, much to the dismay of many of the models who feel the label is just another way of separating them from the norm – has been in the news for 2017, with more and more designers choosing to diversify their runways with models who represent a more realistic standard of beauty. This year we need to remember Torrid that became the first plus-size women’s fashion brands to have a slot in the main programme at New York Fashion Week.
But this is nothing new for NYFW, as last fall 2017 season designers such as Michael Kors, showcased the gorgeous Ashley Graham, Carolyn Murphy and Joan Small in pieces from his collection for the first time although the designer has been producing a variety of sizing for quite a while.
Other designers to embrace the trend at NYFW last year included Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, Oak, Tracy Reese and J.Crew. And the trend continued with the European collections, with the voluptuous Alessandra Garcia-Lorido rocking it out for Dolce & Gabbana and Katy Syme and Stella Duval strutting their stuff at H&M’s see-now-buy-now show. Is it a FAD ? I don’t think so!
Invited to La Palma for the unveiling of the newly formed ‘Curvy Fashion Canarias ‘, 2018 calendar was an honor, and it was women empowerment at its best.
Although amongst the 12 women forming the calendar there were a couple of women that want to take modeling further, all these working women united for a very strong common cause. Feminine beauty is not measured by size! With renown photography Emilio Barrionuevo, winner of the Association of photographers Lux award for 2017, shooting the 15 page black and white images, the calendar is definitely beautiful and has 20% going to the Duchenne Parent Project charity.
Speaking to Cris Navarro the spokesperson for the project, that counted with funding from local businesses and friends and family it was definitely 6 months of very very hard work. But worth it, for women’s empowerment . Fabulous to see National Tv Chanel Telecinco make it part of their nationwide news too.
